# Product availability

> Why a product might not be visible to a customer, and the two layers that control it.

Whether a customer can order a product depends on two separate things: the product's own status, and the pricing group that customer is assigned to.

## Layer 1: the product's own status

Every product has an **Available**/**Unavailable** setting and an active/archived state. If a product is marked Unavailable or has been archived, it's hidden from every customer, regardless of pricing.

## Layer 2: the customer's pricing group

Every customer needs a pricing group assigned to see or order anything. Exactly how a pricing group controls which products a customer sees, and which price applies, is covered in full in [Product availability and missing prices](/supplier-guide/pricing/product-availability-and-missing-prices) — that page, and the rest of the [Pricing guide](/supplier-guide/pricing/overview), is the authoritative source for these rules.
