# Products overview

> What a product represents in FikaTrade, and how it connects to pricing.

A product in FikaTrade is an item you sell — it belongs to your business alone and isn't shared with other suppliers.

## What's held against a product

Each product has a code, name, description, an optional image, a base price, a tax setting, and an availability status. You can also group products into categories and map them to a sales account for accounting purposes.

## Products and pricing are connected, but managed separately

A product's **base price** is set on the product itself, and that's what most customers will pay by default. But FikaTrade also has **pricing groups** — a separate way of giving specific customers different prices, or restricting which products they can buy at all. The short version: whether a specific customer can actually order a specific product, and at what price, depends on both the product's own status and the pricing group that customer is assigned to — see [How FikaTrade chooses a price](/supplier-guide/pricing/how-fikatrade-chooses-a-price) for the exact rule.

## Before customers can order

At minimum, a product needs a code, a name, and to be marked Available before customers can order it. Setting a base price is optional but strongly recommended — without one, and without a pricing-group price, there's no price to charge.
