# Update and verify pricing

> What happens when you change a price, and how to check a customer will see what you expect.

## What happens when you change a price

* **A product's base price, or a pricing group's price for a product:** takes effect immediately.
* **A customer browsing the catalogue:** sees the new price right away.
* **A customer's existing cart:** updates to the new price — carts aren't frozen, so the next time a customer views their cart, it reflects current pricing, not what it was when they added the item.
* **An order that's already been placed:** unaffected. Once an order exists, its line prices are locked in permanently, regardless of any later pricing change.
* **An invoice:** uses the order's locked-in price, not a freshly resolved one — so invoices always match the order they came from, even if pricing has since changed.

## How to verify what a customer will see

FikaTrade doesn't have a dedicated "preview as this customer" feature. The most reliable way to confirm a customer's pricing is:

1. Open the customer's record and confirm which pricing group they're assigned to.
2. Open that pricing group and check the product is included, marked Available, and has the price you expect (or is correctly left blank to inherit the base price).
3. Use [How FikaTrade chooses a price](/supplier-guide/pricing/how-fikatrade-chooses-a-price) to work through what the customer should see.

If you need to be certain, placing a real order as a test is the most direct confirmation — there's no separate sandbox or test-order mode.
